General Guidelines What Requires Tevila?

LET’S REVIEW THE Halachos of Tevilas Keilim as they apply to barbecuing, including common tools and utensils.

General Guidelines

– Tevila is required only for utensils used in food prep or consumption.
– Applies to metal and glass utensils; not to wood, stone, or earthenware.
– Only applies to items acquired from a non-Jew, either by purchase or gift.

What Requires Tevila?

Grates: Require tevila with a brocha, as they touch food directly.
BBQ body and hood: Do not require tevila.
Tongs, forks, metal spoons: Require tevila with a brocha.
Metal/glass pans: Require tevila with a brocha, even when lined.
Raw meat marinating dishes: If used only for raw food, tevila is not required. If also used for cooked food, tevila is required.
Disposable aluminum pans: Generally exempt from tevila. However, if reused or particularly durable, tevila is recommended by some.
